Pastore Maremmano Abruzzese, Maremma Sheepdog, originated in Italy where it has been used for many centuries as a flock guardian for sheep and goats. It was first imported into the United States for this purpose in the early 1970's. Since then, the Maremma Sheepdog has continued to increase in number and popularity. You'll commonly hear them referred to as LGDs, (Livestock Guard Dogs).
These dogs were bred to protect herds and property of their shepherds, and originally from coyotes, wolves and bears, and now from thieves and the run of wild dogs. The maremma remains true to sheep, after all thanking its fidelities, some dogs of this breed often carried out protection one and with exclusive responsibility.

Meet "Bella" and pictures of our boy will be posted soon!! We are fortunate to have found these delightful, loving, and very independent pair of Maremmas. They already present the natural instinct to guard the sheep. The hardest thing I've had to overcome was leaving these two cute fur balls outside with the sheep.
